Hollenbeck Police Business Council's 35th Annual Miracle on 1st Street Toy Giveaway Brings Joy 

The holiday spirit was in full force at the Hollenbeck Police Business Council's 35th annual Miracle on 1st Street Toy Giveaway on Saturday, December 17, 2016 in Boyle Heights.

The joyful event spanned six blocks and made the dreams of 10,000 Los Angeles kids come true with entertainment, a parade and a real Winter Wonderland with Santa Claus. Attendees included former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and celebrity guest Arnold Schwarzenegger. To help raise funds, event sponsor Big 5 Sporting Goodshas been selling Christmas ornaments at all Big 5 Sporting Goods locations that will continue to benefit Hollenbeck's wonderful work in the community.

President and CEO Daniel L. Hernandez is a Boyle Heights native and has been leading the center since 1981. Under his tenure, the Center was able to complete a 15,000 square-foot addition, which allowed for the creation of educational and counseling programs. Mr. Hernandez has helped strengthen community relations and turned the center into a nationally recognized organization.

pportunity to support our local youth," said Daniel Hernandez, CEO and President of the Hollenbeck Police Business Council. "Thousands of disadvantaged children receive presents at our event each year and it's so rewarding to see them light up with happiness."

For 44 years, the Hollenbeck Police Business Council and Hollenbeck Youth Center have enriched the community and prevented violence by deterring kids from gang and criminal activities. The Youth Center has provided at-risk youth with a diversified brand of safe and quality after-school programs with the backing and support of the Los Angeles Police Department. The strong relationship that has been forged between the LAPD and the Hollenbeck Youth Center has positively influenced youth throughout East Los Angeles, and is known to be the root of community policing in Los Angeles.

Established in 1976 with assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department, Hollenbeck Police Business Council is one of the first youth organizations to successfully establish community policing.
